What is
Object ID?
Object ID is an international standard for the minimum information
needed to identify art, antiques, and antiquities, developed through
the collaboration of the museum community, police and customs agencies,
the art trade, the insurance industry, and appraisers of art and
antiques. The standard is best defined in terms of its several uses:
as a checklist of the information required to identify stolen or
missing objects;
- as a documentation standard that establishes the minimum level of
information needed to identify an object;
- as a key building block in the development of information networks
that will allow organizations around the world to exchange descriptions
of objects rapidly;
- as a key component in any training program that teaches the documentation
of art, antiques, and antiquities.
